Now that we have gone through the root of the recipe, let us delve into how to make this scrumptious coffee crunch cake.

Before preparing the batter, it is important to preheat the oven to 350 F (175 C) degrees and prep two 9-inch cake pans with butter or non-stick spray.

Making the Cake Layers
Step 1: Prepare the dry ingredients

In a medium bowl, sift together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and a pinch of kosher salt.

Step 2: Make the cake batter

Beat 1 stick (1/2 cup) of softened unsalted butter with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Gradually add in 1 cup of granulated sugar and keep mixing until well combined. Add in 2 eggs one at a time, making sure each is fully incorporated before adding another. Add in the dry ingredients mixture alternately with 1 cup of buttermilk in three batches, starting and ending with the dry mixture. Mix thoroughly after each addition.

Step 3: Add coffee candy for crunch

Crush coffee candy into small pieces and fold them into the cake batter along with 2 tablespoons of instant coffee mixed with warm water.

Step 4: Bake

Divide the batter among the two cake pans spread evenly. Place them in the preheated oven for approximately 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Once baked remove from heat and let cool for about 15 minutes before taking them out from the pans.

Making The Frosting
Step 5: Make coffee-infused whipped cream frosting

While waiting for the cake layers to bake and cool down, whip up some coffee-infused whipped cream frosting by combining one cup heavy cream, 1/2 cup of powdered icing sugar, and 1 tsp. of instant coffee in a mixing bowl. Beat them until they form stiff peaks, refrigerate the mixture until later use.

Assembling The Cake
Step 6: Layer the cake

Once the cake layers have completely cooled down, lay one of them on a cake plate or stand. Spread 1/3 of the frosting on the first cake layer, then place the second layer upside down to attractively show off their flat bottoms so that it fits well on top of the first layer. Spread another 1/3 of the frosting on top of it and then add the final layer with its bottom up.

Step 7: Frosting and decorating

Smother the three layers with your prepared coffee whipped cream frosting ensuring it is evenly spread over all sides of the cake. Decorate with extra coffee candy crumbles or freshly brewed coffee as you wish.

This is it! Your coffee crunch cake is ready to serve!

Substitutions and variations are an excellent way to make the coffee crunch cake recipe more fun and personalized. Here, we will provide some ideas on how to modify this recipe to suit different taste buds and dietary requirements.

For those looking for a healthier alternative, you can replace the granulated sugar with unrefined coconut sugar or honey. Likewise, swapping in oat flour or almond flour in place of all-purpose flour results in adding a nutty flavor that would make your cake gluten-free while also providing more nutrition.

In terms of variations, you could add a handful of chocolate chips before baking or try infusing a shot of espresso into the cake mixture to amplify that coffee flavor to your preferences. Another option for adding texture and enhancing the overall taste would be incorporating chopped nuts or even dried fruit like raisins, apricots, or cranberries.

For those looking for a vegan alternative, you can replace eggs with silken tofu or apple sauce. In contrast, coconut whipped cream is an excellent non-dairy option instead of regular whipped cream.

The ability to unleash creativity and experiment with ingredients is the beauty of cooking. Whether it’s adding a pinch of cinnamon at the last minute or adjusting sweetness accordingly, modifications to recipes allow one to make recipes their own while still relishing its originality.

Tips for Perfect Results

If you want to achieve the perfect coffee crunch cake, there are a few tips that you should keep in mind. First and foremost, it’s important to use high-quality ingredients. Be sure to use fresh eggs, good quality flour, and pure vanilla extract. It may seem like a small detail, but these ingredients can make all the difference in the final product.

When it comes to measuring your ingredients, be sure to accurately measure everything out rather than eyeballing it. Even the slightest difference in measurement can throw off the balance of your cake’s flavor and texture.

Another important tip is to mix your dry ingredients thoroughly before adding them to the wet ingredients. This ensures a more even distribution throughout the batter and can prevent any lumps from forming.

When making the coffee crunch layer, be careful not to over-bake it as this can cause it to become too hard and crunchy. Keep an eye on it as it bakes and take it out of the oven as soon as it reaches the desired texture.

Finally, when assembling and frosting your cake, be sure to let each layer cool completely before adding any frosting or decorations. This will prevent the layers from sliding around or melting due to warmth.

By following these tips, you’ll be sure to have a perfectly moist and delicious coffee crunch cake that will impress anyone who tries it!
