Once you have gathered all the recipe ingredients, it is time to start making the moist homemade layered coffee cream cake. In a large mixing bowl, beat 2 sticks of unsalted butter and 1 ½ cups of granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add in 2 large eggs (room temperature) and mix well.

In a separate bowl, whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, ½ teaspoon of baking soda, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and 1 tablespoon of instant coffee granules.

Now, it’s time to add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture. Gradually add the dry ingredients mixture to the wet ingredients mixture, alternating with 1 cup of milk until everything is well incorporated.

Once everything is mixed properly, add 1 tablespoon of vanilla instant pudding mix and mix again.

Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease three round pans with butter or cooking spray. Divide the batter equally between the pans and smooth out the tops. Bake for about 25-30 minutes or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean.

To make the coffee cream frosting: In a small bowl, dissolve 2 tablespoons of instant coffee granules in 2 tablespoons of boiling water. Allow this mixture to cool down completely.

In another mixing bowl, combine together one package of vanilla instant pudding mix, 3 cups of whipped cream, and the cooled coffee mixture. Mix on high speed until it becomes light and fluffy.

Once the cake layers are cooled completely, start assembling them by placing one layer on a cake stand or plate. Spread approximately one-third part of fluffy coffee buttercream over it with a spatula or piping bag.

Repeat this process for each layer of cake until you get layered coffee cake. Make sure to reserve some cream for the final frosting of the cake.

For the final frosting of the cake, use a spatula or palette knife and cover the entire cake with coffee cream.

Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the layers to settle. Serve with coffee ice cream on the side.

A perfect pick-me-up for any occasion.

If you’re feeling adventurous, there are plenty of ways to change things up when making this coffee cream layer cake. Below are some substitutions and variations that you can try:

– Sponge Cake: Instead of making a traditional cake, swap it out for a sponge cake. A light and fluffy sponge works brilliantly with the creamy coffee filling in this recipe.

– Flavors: If you’re not a fan of coffee, you can switch up the flavors. You could create chocolate layers instead, or try using different types of liquors such as Baileys or Kahlua to create a boozy dessert.

– Frostings: While the classic coffee cream frosting is delicious, you can experiment with other frostings. A cream cheese frosting pairs well with the coffee flavor, or try a ganache on top for an indulgent twist.

– Nuts: Walnuts added to the layers can provide a crunchy texture or you could add caramel to bring in some sweetness.

– Milk Alternatives: Lactose intolerant folks need not miss out on this delectable treat. You can substitute milk with coconut milk or almond milk for the same taste but different rich flavor dimension.

– Pudding Mix: The recipe calls for Vanilla Instant Pudding Mix, but pistachio, chocolate, or butterscotch pudding mix will also work to make your taste buds sing!

These are just a few ideas that can take this already impressive recipe up a notch. Experiment with what works based on your liking and tweak the recipe as much as you desire!

Tips for Perfect Results

Sip and savor every bite of this decadent dessert.
Sip and savor every bite of this decadent dessert.

One of the tricks to making a perfect coffee cream layer cake is to avoid overmixing the batter. Mix the ingredients just enough to incorporate them evenly. Overmixing can cause a tough and dense cake that is not enjoyable.

It is also important to remember to use room temperature ingredients, especially the eggs and butter, for a fluffy coffee layer cake. If these ingredients are too cold, they will not properly blend with the other ingredients.

To ensure that your cake comes out of the pan easily and smoothly, lightly grease the pans and line them with parchment paper before adding the batter. Parchment paper will prevent the cake from sticking to the bottom of the pan.

When baking, keep an eye on your cake to prevent it from getting too brown or burnt around the edges. You can cover the edges with tin foil after about 20-30 minutes of baking to prevent overbrowning if necessary.

Once your layers are done baking, allow them to cool completely before assembling your coffee cream layer cake. If you try to assemble the cake while the layers are still warm, it will result in a slippery and unstable cake.

When frosting your layered coffee cake with coffee buttercream or whipped cream, make sure you apply an even amount throughout each layer. Use a straight-edged spatula and apply pressure as you spread for an extra-smooth finish.

Finally, be creative with your decorations for added flair! Try drizzling ganache over the top layer or adding fresh berries between the layers. Your guests will be impressed by both taste and presentation.

Follow these tips for a moist homemade layered coffee cream cake that your friends and family will rave about for years to come!
