Before we wrap up with this delicious Jeanie’s Crumb Topped Coffee Cake recipe, let’s go through some frequently asked questions that will help you perfect your baking game. Read on to find out solutions for any doubts or queries that you might have before making this classic crumb cake.

Is coffee cake and crumb cake the same?

When it comes to cake, the levels of streusel topping are what sets crumb cake apart from coffee cake. Crumb cake is known for its thick layer of topping, while coffee cake can be enjoyed with or without it. Additionally, there is a New York-style version of crumb cake that features larger crumbs.

How do you keep crumb topping from sinking into batter?

One way to prevent the streusel from sinking into the batter is to mix in a little more flour, creating a firmer consistency. This will ensure that the topping stays on top of the coffee.

What is coffee cake topping made of?

When making the crumb topping, start by mixing sugars, cinnamon, and salt in a bowl of moderate size. Subsequently, whisk in the liquid butter that has been melted. Then, add some flour and stir the mixture using a rubber spatula until it turns wet. Afterward, place the blend onto some parchment paper and allow it to dry until it’s ready to be used.

Why is crumb cake called coffee cake?

When it comes to coffee cake, the name can be a bit misleading. Despite its name, coffee cake doesn’t contain any coffee in its ingredients. This type of cake is typically a soft and moist cake with a crumbly streusel topping that pairs well with a cup of coffee.

Bottom Line

In conclusion, Jeanie’s Crumb Topped Coffee Cake Recipe is a mouth-watering dessert that will make everyone beg for more. With its delicious, crumbly streusel topping and warm, cinnamon-infused cake, it’s the perfect treat to enjoy with a fresh cup of coffee or a glass of cold milk.

Jeanie’s Crumb Topped Coffee Cake Recipe

This recipe came from one of those little books you find at the grocery store checkout. My friend, Jeanie, gave this recipe to me years ago. Coffee cake has never been on my "top ten" things that I like to make, but I suppose I made it the first time because of company coming. Needless to say, it is a family favorite. Notice the small amount of cocoa that is used. that is the key ingredient! I automatically double the ingredients and bake in a 9x13 pan. You might as well do the same!
