This recipe is incredibly versatile, and there are many ways you can customize it to your liking.

Instead of orange jelly, you can use other flavored jellies such as grape, strawberry or raspberry. You could also experiment with incorporating different types of coffee flavors by using flavored coffee to brew the strong coffee used in the recipe. Some popular options include Vietnamese coffee or Japanese coffee.

If you’re looking for a dairy-free alternative to whipped cream, then coconut whipped cream is a great substitution. Similarly, if you want to create a coconut-flavored variation of this recipe, try substituting the heavy cream for coconut cream and adding coconut milk to the mix.

For a more traditional jelly texture, you could use agar agar instead of unflavored gelatin. Agar agar is derived from seaweed and is commonly used in Asian countries to create desserts such as coconut jelly or Japanese coffee jelly.

If you’re short on time or don’t have access to brewed coffee, using instant coffee is another option. Simply dissolve 2 tablespoons of instant coffee into 1/4 cup of hot water, then proceed with the recipe as instructed.

Overall, this recipe offers plenty of room for experimentation and creativity. Try incorporating some of these substitutions and variations to discover your own delicious twist on this classic coffee jelly dessert.

Make-Ahead, Storing and Reheating

A dessert and coffee in one? We've got you covered.
A dessert and coffee in one? We’ve got you covered.

This Orange Coffee Jello is a dessert that can be made ahead of time and stored for whenever you’re in the mood for a sweet and tangy treat. Here are some tips for making sure your coffee jelly is at its best even after it’s been chilled or reheated.

If you’re planning to make this recipe ahead of time, be sure to cover your container with plastic wrap or aluminum foil. This will prevent any moisture from seeping in while it’s in the fridge or freezer. Your coffee jello will stay fresh for up to 3 days in the refrigerator or up to a month in the freezer.

When it comes time to serve or reheat your coffee jello, you can simply remove it from the fridge or freezer, uncover the container, and flip it over onto a plate. If you’ve chilled your coffee jelly for a while, it may take a few minutes for it to loosen up and release from the container.

If you choose to reheat your leftovers, do so gently over low heat on the stovetop or in the microwave. You don’t want to bring your coffee jello to a boil or overheating it as this can cause it to lose its texture and become watery.

For those who like variety, try experimenting with different flavored coffees such as Vietnamese coffee or Japanese coffee. You could also replace part of the water for coconut milk and add some coconut cream jelly on top before serving. These options will give your Orange Coffee Jello an entirely new dimension that will leave you relishing every bite.

4. Experiment with flavored coffee: You can try different types of flavored coffee with this recipe to add more depth to your jello flavors.

5. Chill properly: Once you pour your jello mixture into the mold, let it chill in the fridge for at least 4 hours or overnight for a firmer texture.

Orange Coffee Jello

Orange Coffee Jello Recipe

I love coffee jello and I love the combination of coffee and orange, so I came up with this. For the orange flavour I used orange essence # 340691. For the sweetener I just made up the amount of 1 tablespoon, but as I used rice syrup and don't make my jello really sweet, I'd suggest that you just make your coffee as sweet as you're used to. For the gelatine I used 3/4 bag of ground gelatine (1 bag is for 2 cups of liquid) which I soaked in the orange essence and two tablespoons water and then stirred into the still hot coffee. As packages of ground gelatine don't seem to be listed, I suggest 5 sheets gelatine which you should soak and dissolve according to package directions.
