Make-Ahead:

If you’re planning on serving this recipe for a special occasion or event, why not make it ahead of time? Once your cake has cooled to room temperature, simply wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and store it in the refrigerator for up to two days. This will help the flavors to develop even further and make the texture even more moist.

Storing:

To store your cake after baking, simply let it cool to room temperature and then wrap it in aluminum foil or plastic wrap. It will stay fresh for up to four days at room temperature or up to a week in the refrigerator. You can also freeze leftover coffee cake for later by wrapping it tightly in several layers of plastic wrap or aluminum foil and placing it in the freezer. When you’re ready to enjoy, simply thaw out the cake at room temperature before reheating.

When it comes to baking Grandma’s Streusel Filled Coffee Cake, the right ingredients and techniques can make all the difference in achieving that perfect, tender crumb and perfectly balanced cinnamon streusel topping. Here are some tips to ensure your coffee cake turns out just like Grandma used to make it:

First, make sure all your ingredients, especially the butter and eggs, are at room temperature before you start. Room temperature ingredients will mix more easily and help create a smoother batter.

To make sure the streusel filling is evenly distributed throughout the cake, try alternating layers of streusel with layers of coffee cake batter as you pour them into the pan. You can also lightly swirl them together with a knife before adding the remaining streusel on top.

When mixing the batter, don’t overmix! Overmixing can create a tough texture in baked goods. Mix until just combined and there are no dry spots.

To ensure even baking, rotate your pan halfway through baking. This will help prevent one side from browning too quickly or too much.

Don’t be afraid to use sour cream in place of milk for a richer, more tender crumb. Sour cream adds moisture to baked goods and lends a tangy flavor that complements the cinnamon and brown sugar in the streusel filling.

Lastly, let your coffee cake cool completely in the pan before removing it to serve. This will prevent it from falling apart or sticking to the pan. A bundt pan or springform pan works great for this recipe if you have one.

Follow these tips and you’ll be well on your way to creating a delicious and impressive streusel filled coffee cake just like Grandma’s!
